Tip #5: Clear Blockages
If you want to keep your sewer line running smoothly, it’s important to clear any blockages that may occur. Blockages can happen for a variety of reasons, including tree roots growing into the pipe, grease and debris build-up, or even objects that have been flushed down the toilet.
There are a few ways that you can clear blockages yourself, but it’s always best to call a professional if the blockage is severe. If you’re going to attempt to clear the blockage yourself, you’ll need a plunger or a plumbers’ snake.
To use a plunger, simply place it over the drain and pump it up and down until the water starts to drain. Be sure to use plenty of force so that the plunger can break through any clogs. If you’re using a plumbers’ snake, insert it into the drain and turn the handle clockwise until you feel resistance. This will help to break up any clogs so that water can flow freely again.
